Abstract

The current machining process produces a lot of various production goods that have their respective standards, where the benchmark for the success of the lathed machining process can be seen from one example, namely the surface roughness value of a workpiece resulting from the machining process, the smoother the surface produced, the more either product. The purpose of this study was to find out how much depth of feed is good in producing good workpieces from the AISI 1020 turning process. This study used an experimental method, variations in the depth of feed used in each test object were 0,8 mm, 1 mm, and 1,5 mm. That spindle speed of 115 rpm and 300 rpm and a feed speed of 0,1620 mm/rev. By adding the value of the depth of feed and the spindle speed, the resulting temperature value will be very high. At a spindle speed of 115 rpm with a feed depth of 0,8 mm, the lowest temperature was 44,53°C, while the highest yield was 55.43°C at a spindle speed of 300 with a feed depth of 1.5 mm. By adding the value of the depth of feed and the spindle speed, the resulting tool wear value would high. At a spindle speed of 115 rpm with an feed depth of 0.8 mm, the lowest wear value was 0,005 grams, while the highest wear was obtained at a spindle speed of 300 rpm with an infeed depth of 1,5 mm. The tool wear was 0,013 grams. By adding the value of the depth of feed and the spindle speed, the resulting surface roughness will increase. The spindle speed of 115 rpm with a feed depth of 0,8 mm obtained the lowest value of 3,837 μm, while the spindle speed of 300 rpm with a depth of 1,5 mm obtained the highest value of 6,472 μm.
