Abstract

In today's developments, there are many uses of transportation tools for humans. The most popular means of transportation are motorbikes. With the advent of motorcycles, many parts manufacturers offered components for motorcycles to improve engine quality. One example is the spark plug, the spark plug acts as a tool to sprinkle sparks into the combustion chamber. There are various types of spark plugs, such as standard spark plugs, platinum spark plugs and iridium spark plugs. The spark plug has a gap between the core electrode and the ground electrode. In this study, an analysis will be carried out on the types of spark plugs and their electrode gap distances to find out which type of spark plug and electrode gap distance is more effective and efficient based on the value of engine performance. In this study, standard spark plugs and iridium spark plugs will be used with variations in the spark plug electrode gap distance of 0.55 mm, 0.70 mm and 0.85 mm. Tests in this study will use a dyno test tool to determine torque and power values. While the measuring cup that will be used to determine the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The method used to obtain data is an experiment conducted at BRM Garage Kariangau to determine the effect of using the type of spark plug and the spark plug electrode gap on engine performance. Research has been carried out and it was found that the best type of spark plug is iridium spark plug. The best torque is on iridium spark plugs with a gap of 0.55 mm worth 11.67 Nm. The best power is obtained by 0.55 mm iridium spark plugs with a value of 7.758 kW. For the best fuel consumption (fc) there is a 0.55 mm iridium spark plug with an average value of 0.585 kg/h and for the best specific fuel consumption (SFC) it is obtained by a 0.55 mm iridium spark plug with a value of 0.072 kg/kWh.
