Abstract

Karburisasi merupakan salah satu metode dari pengerasan permukaan yang mana metode ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kekerasan pada permukaan suatu material dengan cara menambahkan karbon pada permukaan suatu material. Sumber karbon yang digunakan berasal dari bahan cangkang kelapa sawit dengan menggunakan energizer CaCo3. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi media pendingin quenching pada proses pack carburizing sproket ASTM A36. Pada penelitian ini, cangkang kelapa sawit terlebih dahulu diaktivasi, lalu dijadikan bahan pada proses karburisasi dengan temperatur 950 ℃ dengan variasi media pendingin quenching air, air garam, dan oli. Selanjutnya akan dilakukan analisis komposisi dengan hasil oli 0,788 %C, air 0,821 %C dan air garam 0,883 %C, struktur mikro dengan hasil ferit, perlit dan bainit, kekerasan permukaan oli 48,5 HRC, air 57,2 HRC, dan air garam 64,2 HRC , ketangguhan dengan hasil oli 1,288 J/mm", air 1,257 J/mm", dan air garam 1,224 J/mm".
