Abstract

Dimetil Eter (DME) dapat digunakan untuk pengganti LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas), CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon) dan biodiesel. Meningkatnya kebutuhan LPG mendorong untuk melakukan impor sehingga menyebabkan anggaran pemerintah Indonesia semakin besar. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, diperlukan pengembangan sumber energi alternatif yang dapat menggantikan fungsi LPG sebagai bahan bakar. Pendirian pabrik Dimetil Eter (DME) di Indonesia menjadi solusi terhadap tantangan terkait kebutuhan LPG. Ketersediaan gas alam yang melimpah menjadikan industri Dimetil Eter (DME) menjadi peluang yang menjanjikan. Pabrik DME ini akan didirikan di Kaltim Industrial Estate Bontang, Kalimantan Timur dengan kapasitas sebesar 800.000 ton/tahun. Pabrik ini menggunakan teknologi proses Direct Synthesis Process. Tahap pertama adalah desulfurisasi untuk mengurangi kandungan H2S dalam gas alam. Tahap kedua yaitu proses reforming untuk mengkonversi gas alam menjadi syngas. Tahap ketiga yaitu absorpsi CO2 dengan menggunakan Monoethanolamine (MEA) sebagai solvent. Tahap keempat yaitu Direct Synthesis Process untuk mengkonversi gas CO dan H2 menjadi produk DME pada suhu 260°C dan tekanan 50 bar. Tahap kelima yaitu proses pemurnian produk DME dengan distilasi untuk menghasilkan DME dengan kemurnian 99%. Kata Kunci: Dimetil Eter, Gas Alam, Syngas
