Abstract

PT. Kaltim Methanol merupakan satu-satunya produsen methanol di Indonesia yang memanfaatkan sistem pendingin berbasis air laut. Salah satu komponen penting dalam sistem ini adalah shaft sleeve packing dari pompa air laut, yang berfungsi melindungi shaft dari organisme perusak. Pada Oktober 2024, dilakukan pemeliharaan overhaul dan ditemukan kerusakan pada shaft sleeve packing pompa S setelah 14 tahun beroperasi, ditandai dengan adanya porositas pada permukaan material. Shaft sleeve packing yang akan diteliti menggunakan material stainless steel 316, yang dikenal memiliki ketahanan korosi tinggi karena kandungan kromium, nikel, dan molibdenum. Namun, dalam lingkungan laut yang korosif, material ini masih berisiko mengalami korosi, terutama korosi pitting. Oleh karena itu, analisis kegagalan dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi kerusakan yang terjadi dan mekanisme kerusakan pada material. Penelitian ini mencakup pengujian tak merusak, analisis mikroskopik, pengujian fluida menggunakan software, serta pengujian laboratorium seperti uji penetran, uji metalografi, uji kekerasan vickers, uji mikroskop optik, dan flow simulation untuk mengidentifikasi jenis dan penyebab kegagalan. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan rekomendasi dalam upaya pencegahan kegagalan serupa pada material yang digunakan.
