Abstract
Perkembangan teknologi material yang ramah lingkungan mendorong pemanfaatan serat alami sebagai penguat komposit. Salah satu serat alami yang memiliki potensi adalah serat kulit kayu waru (Hibiscus tiliaceus), yang tersedia melimpah dan memiliki struktur serat yang kuat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui nilai kekuatan tekuk komposit berbasis serat kulit kayu waru dengan orientasi serat 45° dan 90°, serta mengevaluasi kelayakannya sebagai alternatif material lambung kapal berdasarkan standar BKI (Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia). Komposit dibuat menggunakan metode hand lay-up dengan fraksi volume 20% serat dan 80% resin polyester, serta perlakuan alkali NaOH 5%. Pengujian dilakukan menggunakan UTM (Universal Testing Machine) mengacu pada standar ASTM D790. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa spesimen dengan orientasi serat 45° memiliki rata-rata kekuatan tekuk sebesar 6,56 MPa. Sementara orientasi serat 90° hanya sebesar 4,47 MPa. Nilai tersebut masih jauh di bawah standar minimum BKI, yaitu 152 MPa. Dengan demikian, komposit ini belum layak digunakan untuk lambung kapal, namun masih berpotensi untuk aplikasi non-struktural kapal dan pengembangan lebih lanjut dengan peningkatan fraksi serat dan teknik fabrikasi.
