Abstract
Monochlorobenzene (MCB) is an intermediate chemical with the compound formula C₆H₅Cl, generally used as a raw material for the synthesis of organochlorine compounds with domestic needs fully supported by imports. The initial design of the monochlorobenzene plant’s facility will be constructed in Krakatau Industrial Estate Cilegon (KIEC) with a capacity of 22.500 tons per annum. The raw material benzene, will be supplied by PT. Asahimas Chemical, while the raw material chlorine will be supplied by PT. Chandra Asri. The synthesis of monochlorobenzene is carried out through the direct chlorination process. The production process comprises of preparing raw materials by mixing fresh benzene and chlorine feedstock at each mixing point before feeding into the reactor. The synthesis occurs isothermally at a temperature of 35 °C and a pressure of 2,4 bar in a trickle bed reactor with the support of the FeCl3 catalyst. The products are Monochlorobenzene (MCB), Dichlorobenzena (DCB), and Hydrochloric Acid (HCl), which will be purified using two distillation columns for MCB and DCB, andtwo absorber columns for HCl. The factory is scheduled to operate 24 hours a day for 330 days. Economic analysis result showed that fixed capital investment of Rp54.210.482.104 and production costs of Rp650.355.928.396 were obtained. Theprofitability analysis results showed an ROI of 92%, SDP of 10%, BEP of 63%,NPV of Rp123,667,470,732 and DPBP of 5 years. According on the previously addressed aspects, it can be considered that this preliminary design of monochlorobenene plant is feasible for further study.
