Abstract

Batteries are widely used as energy storage devices in various applications, but they have limitations such as limited capacity and performance degradation over time. This study aims to analyze the performance of VRLA batteries, estimate the State of Charge (SOC) using the Coulomb Counting method based on voltage and current measurements, and analyze the effect of the Peukert effect on SOC variation. The testing was conducted through a discharge process over five cycles using a constant load current of 0.4 A. The results show that the battery voltage decreased from approximately 12.8 V at full charge to 10.77 V when the SOC reached 0%. At SOC levels of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%, the measured battery voltages were 11.10 V, 11.53 V, 12.07 V, and 12.38 V, respectively. SOC estimation using the Coulomb Counting method shows a nearly linear relationship between voltage variation and SOC value. The analysis of the Peukert effect resulted in a Peukert index value of 1.1025, which is still within the normal range for VRLA batteries. By considering the Peukert effect, the estimation of battery capacity and SOC becomes more accurate, especially at low SOC conditions. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for monitoring and optimizing the use of VRLA batteries.
