Abstract
The perfume industry requires precise raw material composition to achieve optimal product characteristics, such as sillage, longevity, and projection. One of the primary ingredients in perfume formulation is patchouli oil (minyak nilam), which is frequently blended with alcohol. Therefore, an instrument capable of accurately and efficiently measuring alcohol concentration in perfume is essential to ensure product safety for consumers. This study aims to design a device to measure alcohol concentration in perfume using an InGaAs Photodiode detector integrated with a 1300 nm LED light source. The measurement process utilizes the Near-Infrared (NIR) method, employing near-infrared light at a wavelength of 1300 nm to detect the alcohol content within the samples. The experimental results yielded specific absorbance values for each perfume sample tested. For the Extrait de Parfum sample, which contained the lowest alcohol concentration, the absorbance values ranged from 0.0001 to 0.0007. Conversely, the Eau Fraiche sample, containing the highest alcohol concentration, exhibited absorbance values ranging from 0.0021 to 0.0028. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that a higher alcohol concentration results in a higher absorbance value, and vice versa. Keywords: Alcohol, InGaAs Photodiode, Patchouli oil
