Abstract
The Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) faces challenges in scheduling its Preparatory Phase, formerly known as the Joint Preparation Phase (TPB), due to the significant increase in the number of students each year and the opening of new Study Programs, while scheduling is still carried out without an algorithm. The scheduling process that is still carried out without an algorithm causes potential scheduling conflicts between study programs, inefficiencies, and increasing complexity as the variety of study programs increases. Therefore, a systematic approach based on optimization algorithms is needed to produce an efficient, conflict-free schedule that is able to adapt to the dynamics of the institution. This study aims to apply the Integer Programming (IP) method to compile the Preparatory Phase lecture schedule at ITK. The selection of IP is based on its ability to represent problems exactly in the form of binary variables and linear constraints, guarantee optimal solutions, and be flexible to the dynamics of student additions and the opening of new study programs. The IP model is formulated with binary decision variables that represent the placement of courses into specific combinations of time, study programs, and days. The objective function is designed to minimize scheduling conflicts by considering various real-world constraints such as sessions (odd and even), the division of student groups across study programs, and academic rules for the Preparatory Phase. The model has been solved using Integer Programming algorithms such as Integer Linear Programming, Branch and Bound, and Branch and Cut with five different scenarios each. The model is implemented using Python, and the results are analyzed and validated to ensure its feasibility and optimality. This research contributes to the development of a scheduling system that is adaptive to the dynamics of student growth, the opening of new study programs, and infrastructure limitations at ITK.
