Abstract
Copyright protection is important in the digital age. In particular, RGB (Red, Green, Blue) digital images can be easily misused by irresponsible parties as a form of copyright infringement. This study aims to compare the effect of size on the key matrix used in the digital image encryption process using Hill Cipher. The research method begins with a literature study related to matrices, algebraic concepts, and the ring \mathbb{Z}_n, as well as various cryptography terminology. In addition, there is a literature study on the basics of digital images based on the classification and use of copyright. The encryption process is part of the concept of cryptography as a form of data security that transforms the original image (plain-image) into an encrypted image (cipher-image). The method for comparing the influence of the key matrix size used involves visualising image histograms and the entropy values obtained from the encryption results; specifically, the average entropy value for a 2×2 key matrix is 7.949727057, for a 4×4 key matrix it is 7.997411366, and for an 8×8 key matrix it is 7.998997023. The inverse of the key matrix in the Hill Cipher is also required for the decryption process to convert the cipher-image back into the plain-image. Furthermore, the average encryption time for the 2×2 key matrix is 3.4998 seconds, for the 4×4 key matrix is 1.0024 seconds, and for the 8×8 key matrix is 0.3189 seconds. Based on the trends observed in the test results, the use of an 8×8 key matrix yields shows the most random encryption results or the highest entropy values and more efficient encryption time compared to 2×2 and 4×4 key matrices for encrypting digital images.
