Abstract

Meningkatnya kebutuhan energi global mendorong pemanfaatan terhadap sumber energi alternatif. Batubara peringkat rendah hingga menengah yang mendominasi cadangan batubara Indonesia. Upaya dari peningkatan kualitas dan pemanfaatannya melalui pembuatan biobriket dengan memanfaatkan limbah biomassa ampas tebu. Selain itu, penambahan kalsium karbonat (CaCO₃) dapat berfungsi sebagai adsorben sulfur untuk mengurangi emisi gas hasil pembakaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik biobriket batubara dan ampas tebu sebagai bahan bakar alternatif yaitu uji kadar air, kadar abu, nilai kalor, dan laju pembakaran, serta menganalisis pengaruh penambahan CaCO₃ terhadap komposisi unsur dan emisi gas CO dan SO₂ hasil pembakaran biobriket. Biobriket dibuat dari campuran batubara dan ampas tebu dengan perbandingan 50:50 menggunakan perekat molase dan ukuran partikel 100 mesh. Variasi penambahan CaCO₃ yang digunakan adalah 0%, 3%, dan 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan CaCO₃ mempengaruhi karakteristik dan emisi gas biobriket. Pada variasi tanpa CaCO₃ diperoleh kadar air 6,7480%, kadar abu 7,1136%, nilai kalor 4.678,29 cal/g, laju pembakaran 0,183 g/menit, emisi CO 3.089 ppm, dan SO₂ 95 ppm. Penambahan CaCO₃ sebesar 3% menghasilkan nilai kalor tertinggi sebesar 5.040,08 cal/g dengan emisi SO₂ terendah sebesar 58 ppm. Sementara itu, pada penambahan CaCO₃ sebesar 5% diperoleh kadar air 8,0754%, kadar abu 8,0127%, nilai kalor 4.788,58 cal/g, laju pembakaran 0,135 g/menit, emisi CO 2.854 ppm, dan SO₂ 114 ppm. Hasil analisis XRF menunjukkan peningkatan kandungan unsur kalsium (Ca) dan penurunan kandungan sulfur (S) seiring penambahan CaCO₃. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, penambahan CaCO₃ sebesar 3% merupakan variasi terbaik karena menghasilkan nilai kalor tertinggi dan emisi SO₂ terendah, sehingga berpotensi meningkatkan kualitas biobriket menjadi alternatif pada bahan bakar yang ramah lingkungan.
