Abstract

The increasing demand for non-domestic water in healthcare facilities has led to greater dependence on conventional water sources, while the potential of rainwater as an alternative water source has not been optimally utilized. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of a roof rainwater harvesting system in meeting non-domestic water demand and reducing the cost of conventional water use at Dr. Kanujoso Djatiwibowo Regional Hospital buildings through the planning period of 2035. The research method included the projection of non-domestic water demand, estimation of harvested rainwater yield based on historical rainfall data, roof catchment area, and runoff coefficient, followed by reliability discharge analysis, water balance analysis, and cost-saving analysis. The results showed that the projected non-domestic water demand in the Anggrek Hitam Building increased from 2,418 m^{3}/year in 2026 to 8,315 m^{3}/year in 2035, while the Lavender Building increased from 1,450 m^{3}/year to 4,897 m^{3}/year over the same period. The estimated harvested rainwater yield was 1,146.452 m^{3}year for the Anggrek Hitam Building and 1,190.82 m^{3}/year for the Lavender Building. Water balance analysis indicated that harvested rainwater was able to meet a portion of the non-domestic water demand in both buildings. The implementation of the roof rainwater harvesting system also reduced conventional water use costs, with annual savings ranging from IDR 2,623,081 in 2026 to IDR 3,733,463 in 2035 for the Anggrek Hitam Building, and from IDR 2,724,615 in 2026 to IDR 3,877,976 in 2035 for the Lavender Building. Therefore, the roof rainwater harvesting system has the potential to serve as an alternative non-domestic water supply by improving water use efficiency, reducing dependence on conventional water sources, and providing economic benefits for healthcare facilities.
