Abstract

The rapid growth of the optical industry requires businesses to consistently maintain product quality to meet customer needs and satisfaction. However, defects in the eyeglass production process continue to reduce product quality, increase production costs, and lower customer satisfaction. This study aims to evaluate the quality level of the production process, identify the main causes of defects, and propose improvements using the Six Sigma method with the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) approach. In the Define phase, process identification was conducted using SIPOC diagrams and Critical to Quality (CTQ) analysis. The Measure phase included the calculation of Defects per Million Opportunities (DPMO), sigma levels, and p-control charts. Pareto and fishbone diagrams were used in the Analyze phase to identify dominant defect types and their root causes. Improvement strategies were formulated using the 5W+1H method, while the Control phase employed a monitoring checksheet to ensure the sustainability of improvements. The results showed that from January to December 2025, a total of 586 eyeglasses were produced, with 51 defective units. The average DPMO was 21,844 and the sigma level was 3.517. The dominant defects were broken frames (47%) and scratched lenses (33%), while fishbone analysis identified human, method, material, machine, environmental, and measurement factors as the main causes. The proposed improvements are estimated to reduce defects to 16 units, decrease the DPMO to 6,825, and increase the sigma level to 3.966. These findings indicate that the Six Sigma DMAIC approach is effective in improving and controlling the quality of the eyeglass production process.
