Abstract
Pemanfaatan bahan dari logam yang berasal dari bijih besi masih mendominasi sebagai sumber bahan yang digunakan.Dalam pembuatan kompostit, secara umum penguat (reinforcement) atau serat akan dibuat dalam bentuk preform yang bertujuan meningkatkan laju produksi dan memungkinkan kontrol distribusi serat yang dapat meningkatkan sifat mekanik komposit serta mempercepat produksi komposit.Dalam penelitian ini preform yang dibuat adalah preform jenis serat searah atau non-crimp fabric yang dimana bertujuan untuk meningkatkan nilai kekuatan dari preform yang dibuat karena nilai tegangan dari serat searah. Serat daun sisal (sisalana agave) berdasarkan jurnal penelitian memliki selulosa yang tinggi serta nilai kekuatan tarik yang tinggi sehingga berpotensi dapt dijadikan sebagai penguat dalam pembuatan preform maupun komposit kedepannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik dari preform alam berbasis selulosa dari serat daun Sisal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan density dari serat pelepah pinang yaitu 0,61 grm/cm3. Hasil pengujian tarik preform variabel resin pengikat 15gram menghasilkan nilai kekuatan interface antar serat paling signifikan yaitu 3,55 MPa sedangkan nilai area density yang dihasilkan dari variabel 5gram, 10gram dan 15gram yaitu 605,75gr/m2, 698,16 gr/m2 dan 728,00 gr/m2.
