Abstract
At this time the chemical industry sector is growing, especially in the territory of Indonesia. It also has an impact on increasing the use of chemicals such as preservatives and solvents in various industries. One of the chemicals that can be used as preservatives and coatings is Propylene Glycol. Data on imports of propylene glycol in the last year, 2021, shows that Indonesia adopted 74,468.43 tons of propylene glycol with a percentage increase in imports from the previous year of 38%. Seeing the many applications that can be used as well as the increasing demand for domestic propylene glycol, this industry has good prospects for development in Indonesia, so there is a need for planning related to the establishment of the factory. Propylene Glycol Plant Design is planned to be established in 2027 with a production capacity of 81,000 tons/year and continuous operation for 330 days/year. Propylene glycol is produced from propylene oxide which is reacted with air and the addition of a catalyst in the form of sulfuric acid. From this process, in addition to 95% propylene glycol produced, 98% dipropylene glycol will also be produced which is a by-product. Based on the economic analysis that has been carried out, the total capital investment value for this propylene glycol plant $43.851.599,05 with DCFR 22%, NPV $49.615.572, ROI 52,7%, BEP 48,2%, and SDP 19%. These overall parameters indicate that this propylene glycol plant is economically feasible for further development. Keywords: water, propylene glycol, propylene oxide
