Abstract
Tandan kosong kelapa sawit merupakan limbah padat dari hasil pengolahan kelapa sawit dengan jumlah sebanyak 37.816.105 ton di tahun 2020. Melimpahnya limbah tersebut menjadikannya sangat berpotensi untuk digunakan dalam pembangkit listrik tenaga biomassa maupun industri kimia lainnya. Salah satunya adalah dengan cara mengolah tandan kosong kelapa sawit menjadi dimetil eter yang mana dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif pengganti LPG untuk rumah tangga dan industri. Dengan demikian pendirian pabrik dimetil eter menjadi solusi yang tepat untuk mengolah limbah tersebut sekaligus dapat mengurangi ketergantungan akan energi fosil. Pabrik dimetil eter ini direncanakan menggunakan reaksi sintesis single-stage antara CO dengan H2 dari syngas. Produk dimetil eter kemudian dipisahkan dari syngas yang tidak bereaksi menggunakan flash tank sebanyak dua kali sehingga didapatkan dimetil eter dengan kemurnian 99,965%. Pabrik direncanakan akan berdiri pada tahun 2027 dengan kapasitas 50.000 ton/tahun dan beroperasi selama 330 hari/tahun. Berdasarkan analisis ekonomi yang telah dilakukan, diperoleh nilai Total Capital Investment (TCI) sebesar $458.855.886,07 dengan Return of Investment sebesar (ROI) 74,69%, Break Event Point (BEP) pada 76%, Discounted Payback Period (DPBP) selama 2,84 tahun, Shut Down Point (SDP) pada 62%, Discounted Cash Flow Rate of Return (DCFR) 32,01%. Keseluruhan parameter tersebut menunjukkan bahwa pabrik dimetil eter ini secara ekonomi layak untuk didirikan.
