Abstract
Indonesia merupakan urutan ke 6 sebagai produsen industri tekstil di dunia. Etilen glikol merupakan bahan kimia yang sangat sering digunakan menjadi bahan baku pada industri tekstil. Namun produksi Etilen Glikol di Indonesia hanya satu dan belum menutupi kebutuhan dalam negeri. Produksi etilen glikol dari etilen oksida dengan kapasitas 120.000 ton/tahun terdiri dari 3 tahap proses, yaitu tahap persiapan bahan baku, tahap sintesa dan tahap pemurniaan. Tahap persiapan bahan baku dilakukan untuk menyesuaikan kondisi operasi pada tahap sintesa. Kemudian tahap sintesa dilakukan proses hidrolisis dengan mereaksikan etilen oksida dengan air pada plug flow reactor. Tahap pemurniaan dilakukan agar diperoleh produk dengan kemurniaan tinggi. Pabrik etilen glikol mempunyai waktu operasional 24 jam selama setahun yang dibagi menjadi 3 shift dengan 8 jam kerja/shift. Pabrik ini direncanakan akan didirikan di Kecamatan Pulo Ampel, Kabupaten Serang, Provinsi Banten dengan luas tanah sebesar 87.500 m2. Pabrik etilen glikol ini membutuhkan listrik 274.111,20 Kw dan kebutuhan air sebesar 2.397.957,81 m3 dalam satu tahun. Adapun modal tetap (FCI) dan modal kerja (WCI) yang dibutuhkan dalam pembangunan pabrik ini secara berturut-turut sebesar Rp. 876.325.705.906,12 Dan Rp. 131.448.855.885,92. Sehingga jumlah modal investasi (TCI) pabrik ini sebesar 1.007.774.561.792,03. ROI sebesar 103% dan BEP sebesar 41,03 %. Dari aspek tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa pabrik etilen glikol ini layak dikaju lebih lanjut. Kata kunci : Etilen Oksida, Hidrolisis, Etilen Glikol
