Abstract

Karburisasi adalah metode pengerasan permukaan yang meningkatkan kekerasan material dengan menambahkan karbon pada permukaan. Salah satu sumber karbon yang digunakan adalah cangkang kelapa sawit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi temperatur karburisasi terhadap struktur mikro, kedalaman difusi karbon, dan kekerasan permukaan sproket ASTM A36. Metode yang digunakan adalah karburisasi padat dengan sumber karbon cangkang kelapa sawit dan bantuan BaCO3. Variasi temperatur karburisasi yang digunakan adalah 850°C, 950°C, dan 1050°C. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan terbentuknya fasa austenit sisa dan martensit pada ketiga variasi suhu, dengan kedalaman difusi karbon berturut-turut sebesar 168,201 μm (850°C), 253,585 μm (950°C), dan 302,576 μm (1050°C). Persentase karbon yang diperoleh adalah 0,720% (850°C), 0,828% (950°C), dan 0,975% (1050°C). Kekerasan rata-rata pada variasi suhu tersebut berturut-turut adalah 37,77 HRC, 44,97 HRC, dan 64,7 HRC. Temperatur karburisasi mempengaruhi struktur mikro, kedalaman difusi karbon, kekerasan material.
