Abstract
Pengelasan secara umum adalah proses penyambungan pada logam menggunakan pencairan logam induk dan logam pengisi dengan busur listrik yang menghasilkan material baru. Perkembangan industri otomotif di Indonesia mengalami peningkatan pesat, terutama dalam permintaan kendaraan jenis Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) yang ekonomis dan ramah lingkungan. Namun, upaya menekan biaya produksi menyebabkan penurunan kualitas material, seperti pada bodi mobil yang menggunakan plat mild steel. Upaya untuk meningkatkan sifat mekanik bodi mobil, metode hardfacing dengan pola grid melalui pengelasan Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) diterapkan. Hardfacing adalah teknik pelapisan material tahan aus untuk meningkatkan ketahanan aus dan sifat mekanik material. Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh variasi jumlah grid hardfacing 1, 2, 3, 4, dan 5 grid pada plat baja SS 400 terhadap sifat mekaniknya menggunakan pengelasan Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) dengan elektroda ER70S-6, gas pelindung CO2, arus dan voltase pengelasan yang digunakan 80 A dan 10 V. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi jumlah grid hardfacing terhadap sifat mekanik dan struktur mikro menggunakan metode regular intervals passes hardfacing. Pengujian bending dan metalografi dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi perubahan sifat mekanik dan struktur mikro sebelum dan setelah hardfacing. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada sifat mekanik pada jumlah variasi grid, sehingga dapat meningkatkan performa bodi mobil di industri otomotif.
