Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah plastik pada Kelurahan Baru Tengah masih belum dikelola dengan baik. Hal tersebut ditandai dengan jumlah timbulan sampah plastik sebanyak 66.112,5 liter/hari. Tujuan penelitian ini mengetahui timbulan, komposisi, karakteristik, dan kondisi eksisting di Kelurahan Baru Tengah serta memberikan rekomendasi pemanfaatan untuk mengurangi volume sampah ke TPA. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa jumlah timbulan sampah plastik di sekolah sebesar 91,80 Kg/hari dan sampah plastik petokoan sebesar 21,00 Kg/hari dengan komposisi sampah plastik dominan ditemukan di sekolah yaitu PET sebesar 37% dan sampah plastik terbanyak di pertokoan yaitu LDPE sebesar 50%. Namun, kondisi eksisting pengelolaan sampah plastik di sekolah dan pertokoan masih kurang optimal. Dari hasil wawancara, 4 sekolah melakukan pemanfaatan ulang, 3 sekolah membatasi penggunaan plastik, dan 2 sekolah melakukan pemilahan. Sedangkan pertokoan sebanyak 10 toko membuang sampah setiap hari, hanya 2 toko yang memanfaatkan kembali sampah plastik, 3 toko membatasi penggunaannya, dan tidak ada yang melakukan pemilahan. Hasil uji karakteristik sampah plastik sekolah menunjukkan bahwa kadar air sebesar 1,98%, kadar abu 0,03%, kadar volatile 97,65%, karbon tetap 0,02% dan kalor 9363,82% dan untuk sampel sekolah dengan kadar air sebesar 0,34%, kadar abu 0,66%, kadar volatile 98,99%,karbon tetap 0,003% dan kalor 9179,80%. Karakteristik seperti kadar air rendah, abu rendah, volatile tinggi, dan nilai kalor tinggi adalah indikator utama bahwa sampah plastik ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai RDF, briket, bahan bakar alternatif, dan karbon aktif.
