Abstract
Jumlah penduduk Kota Balikpapan terus meningkat dengan rata-rata pertumbuhan sebesar 1,26% antara Tahun 2020 hingga 2022. Hal ini berdampak pada peningkatan volume air limbah domestik yang dihasilkan dari aktivitas rumah tangga, perniagaan, dan perkantoran. Air limbah domestik mengandung polutan organik yang dapat mencemari lingkungan apabila tidak dikelola dengan baik. Kota Balikpapan memiliki Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah (IPAL) Margasari dengan kapasitas 800 m3/hari. Proses pengolahan ini berpotensi menghasilkan emisi gas rumah kaca (CO2, CH4, N2O) akibat penggunaan energi listrik dan degradasi bahan organik pada bak aerator. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak lingkungan dari proses pengolahan air limbah di IPAL Margasari dan menyusun rekomendasi untuk meminimalisir dampak tersebut. Metode Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) digunakan untuk menilai dampak lingkungan secara menyeluruh dengan analisis dilakukan secara gate-to-gate menggunakan software SimaPro dan metode IMPACT 2002+. Hasil analisis menunjukkan tiga dampak terbesar adalah Respiratory Inorganics sebesar 0,03257 Pt, Global Warming sebesar 0,00146 Pt, dan Non-renewable Energy sebesar 0,000781 Pt. Rekomendasi perbaikan dilakukan berdasarkan tiga dampak terbesar yang dihasilkan melalui skenario ketiga, yaitu penggantian pompa yang ditambah penggunaan inverter. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa skenario 3 dapat mengurangi dampak lingkungan dari kondisi eksisting sebesar 18,22%, 17,58%, dan 17,57%.
