Abstract

Asam Benzoat adalah bahan kimia yang dimanfaatkan dalam proses pembuatan makanan yang berperan sebagai pengawet. Dengan semakin bertambah pesatnya kebutuhan asam benzoat dalam produksi makanan di Indonesia sehingga mengakibatkan meningkatnya jumlah impor asam benzoat, karena tidak adanya pabrik asam benzoat di Indonesia. Pabrik asam benzoat yang direncanakan didirikan di Indonesia pada tahun 2037 yang memiliki kapasitas produksi 25.000 ton/tahun. Lokasi pendirian pabrik asam benzoat adalah di daerah Gelagah Temaji, Kecamatan Jenu, Kabupaten Tuban, Provinsi Jawa Timur karena sumber bahan baku yaitu toluene yang cenderung dekat ke lokasi pendirian pabrik. Proses yang digunakan untuk memproduksi asam benzoat yaitu menggunakan proses hidrolisis Benzotrichloride dengan bantuan katalis yaitu Asam Sulfat. Proses produksi meliputi beberapa tahap yaitu tahap persiapan bahan baku, tahap reaksi, tahap pemisahan dan pemurnian, dan tahap penanganan produk. Pabrik ini menghasilkan keuntungan dengan nilai ROI sebesar 68,49%, Payback Period selama 1,241 tahun, Shutdown Point sebesar 23%, dan Break Even Point sebesar 54%. Dengan ini pabrik feasible untuk didirikan.
