Abstract

The maritime sector currently still relies heavily on fossil fuels, especially Marine Diesel Oil (MDO), which causes increased greenhouse gas emissions. One alternative fuel that has the potential to be developed is biodiesel derived from kapok seed oil (Ceiba pentandra). This is because the raw material comes from non-food sources, is available in abundant quantities in Indonesia, and its utilization is still limited, so it has the opportunity to be developed as a renewable fuel with high added value. The test results showed that the B60 mixture had superior performance compared to the B50 mixture, which was seen from the amount of torque produced at 1600 and 1900 RPM, lower SFC values at high loads, and better thermal efficiency at medium to high loads. This study shows that a blend of biodiesel from kapok seed oil with cyclohexane has the potential as an acceptable and sustainable alternative fuel for use in marine diesel engines.
