Abstract

Industri otomotif banyak menggunakan metode Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) pada komponen baja tipis, namun memiliki keterbatasan pada biaya peralatan dan fleksibilitas material. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh variasi waktu tahan arc spot welding metode Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) terhadap sifat mekanik dan struktur mikro baja SS400 tebal 0,8 mm. Variasi waktu tahan 4, 5, dan 6 detik menggunakan elektroda E6013 posisi 1G dievaluasi melalui shear tensile test dan analisis struktur mikro. Hasil menunjukkan nilai Ultimate Shear Strength meningkat dari 130,20 menjadi 152,57 dan 155,15 MPa, dengan peningkatan 17,18% (4–5 detik) dan 1,69% (5–6 detik), sehingga waktu tahan 5 detik menjadi kondisi optimum dengan standar deviasi terendah (2,52 MPa). Seluruh spesimen mengalami pull-out failure. Fraksi acicular ferrite berubah dari 35%, 58%, menjadi 52%, ukuran butir weld metal menurun dari 5,20 menjadi 4,08 µm, dan diameter nugget meningkat dari 6,91 menjadi 7,65 dan 7,82 mm seiring bertambahnya waktu tahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode SMAW berpotensi menjadi alternatif proses las titik pada aplikasi industri otomotif.
