Abstract

Baja karbon rendah banyak digunakan dalam industri, namun rentan mengalami korosi selama proses pickling menggunakan larutan HCl. Penambahan inhibitor korosi organik menjadi salah satu metode untuk mengurangi laju korosi sekaligus mendukung konsep ramah lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi potensi ekstrak sabut buah lontar (Borassus flabellifer Linn.) sebagai inhibitor korosi pada baja ST37 dalam larutan HCl 1 M dengan variasi lama perendaman. Hasil uji fitokimia dan FTIR menunjukkan keberadaan senyawa flavonoid dan tanin yang berperan dalam proses inhibisi. Efisiensi inhibisi tertinggi dicapai pada lama perendaman 240 menit, yaitu sebesar 90,30% berdasarkan metode weight loss, 90,53% berdasarkan polarisasi Tafel, dan 92,29% berdasarkan electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Laju korosi terendah diperoleh sebesar 0,53249 mm/tahun. Hasil karakterisasi permukaan menggunakan SEM-EDX dan AFM menunjukkan terbentuknya lapisan pelindung inhibitor yang menghasilkan permukaan baja lebih halus dibandingkan sampel tanpa inhibitor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak sabut buah lontar berpotensi sebagai inhibitor korosi organik yang efektif untuk baja ST37 dalam media HCl 1 M.
